A painting remade

The painting from yesterday's post has been given a new life, what do you think?

I cut out a dozen or so rough leaf shapes then glued them onto a background card in a flower arrangement. Stitched around them and sewed a few colourful beads in the centre. Mounted on the front of a blank notebook and i think this will make a nice little gift for someone special.  

There are a thousand kid's paintings around this house. Certainly more than i will ever be able to display, keep, use for wrapping paper or otherwise put to use. I thought this was a nice way for some art to live on...

Some lovely colours catching my eye today... The painting was found crumpled, crushed and poking out of my little one's creche bag. The colours got me. I'll be cutting it up and making something from this me thinks.

With fabric instead

My cards and ready to frame pictures are all made using different papers... although people often assume that i use fabric simply because it's sewn. Paper is generally a lot easier to work with, more rigid and easier to secure in place when it's going through the sewing machine, much less likely to buckle or wrinkle.

However, I recently received a special request to create a set of pictures in fabric scraps in order to match other pieces in a child's bedroom. Has been nice to do something a litle different and i'm happy with the results so far.

Thinking about christmas

Christmas is queity sneaking up on me... this morning i've been looking at papers and notions, revisiting last year's designs.

My desk disappeareth... again

Buried under piles again. Some actual space to work on this desk would be nice so I really must do some sorting, tidying, etc. But thats really quite dull when there are pretty papers to cut into.

Small things

A couple of small things arrived in the post this week to make me happy... some Japanese masking tapes in lovely colours and my mini Moo cards. Perfect to pretty up my parcels!

Paper toy making

I found the Toy-a-Day blog a couple of weeks ago and made the mistake of showing my little moonman. So every day since i have been nagged and questioned as to when we'll make a paper toy... so today it was. Heaps to choose from but it had to be Transformers for us, "boy ones" i was informed.

These were a pdf template to download (i enlarged them slightly to make it easier for small hands to cut out), cut out, fold, glue, done. A nice little project to do together!

School holidays

I've reached that stage of the school holidays where i'm barely hanging on to a few threads of sanity... Painting today. Kept them entertained for a good 10 minutes before being distracted by other things!

Shared workspace

More sewing for me today. The little moons sat with me for a while and did a couple of sweet little cut and paste animals we downloaded and printed (fromthe blog of artist John W Golden).

I'm not one for a tidy desk

And when it is tidy it doesn't stay that way for long. Today i took over the dining table too. It's under there somewhere...

Busy afternoon finishing some orders and cutting into some gorgeous new papers. I've had lots of requests lately for ready to frame pictures in sets of three rather than the usual pairs. So am working on a garden themed trio - the bird, butterfly and flowers on top there - and contemplating some other themes to work on too.

School holiday making

School holidays have arrived and of course its raining, so we've been a-making... I spied this great finger puppet project from Crankbunny over on the Etsy blog some time ago and quickly bookmarked it. The little moons are quite happy with their unicycling fellows!

It was just an easy template to download, print, cut out and pin together. With a 3 and 6 year old i found it took a while to cut out all the pieces and a little fiddly, so we bypsssed a couple of steps to ensure attention spans weren't stretched too far!

There are more rainy days forecast for the rest of the week and i have a lot more things in store to get them creating.

New paper

A few more papers to add to the collection. I really didn't intend to buy anything when i walked out the door, but you know how these things happen.

Loving the vintage-ish colour scheme! Now to find the time to make something with them... hmm.

Notebooks

I picked up a few blank moleskine notebooks with the thought of putting some of my designs on the front. First one done... free-sewn flower and leaves climbing up the cover.
