One thing i didn't mention in yesterday's post is that the newspaper article talked about a crocheted rug i have...
It is one of the many things i have of my mother's that was left unfinished when she died. I adore it completely and will one day learn to crochet so i can finish it. I thought i'd share a couple if photos here because it is truly gorgeous and i especially love the colours she was working with.
All the pieces are bundled together in a bag with numerous balls of wool and a crochet hook. Ready and waiting to be completed.
It does raise a couple of questions in the back of my mind though, which you might think are silly. Should i finish it? I could never finish it the way she would have intended. I'd inevitably choose different colours and combinations. I'd be nowhere near as good at the craft as she was, so is it doing it an injustice to finish it myself? By the same token, i could never hand it to someone else to finish because it means too much to me, its too personal. But it simply shouldn't stay wrapped up in the back of a cupboard unfinished and unseen. It has to be seen and touched and felt and used and admired.
So... yes, i need to learn how to crochet. Yes, i need to finish it. And yes, it will be beautiful when i do.
