The glamour of it all

Oh yes, the glamour of working from home in undeniable. This is what it looks like for me today... bad hair, cardy and all. It's a shame you can't hear the dog barking in the background or the needy washing machine that beeps incessantly the moment it finishes a wash until you get up to unload it. Those boxes behind me are full of stock waiting to be cut and the desk in front of me is a mess.Today i'm doing dullest of dull paperwork and computer stuff. In the vain but ever-optimistic hope of making it more bearable i've painted my nails red, made a strong coffee, indulged in a choc chip muffin and am listening to good music.

It's not working. Paperwork still sucks. I can only hope your day has been significantly more interesting than mine so far!

Workplace companion

I was sitting here.

But upon leaving my chair and in no more than two seconds flat, the cat claimed the warm spot. When i returned in the hope of continuing some sewing, she was operating under the misguided theory that if she didn't make eye contact with me then everything was fine and i wouldn't kick her off. It was a grave injustice when i finally removed her, claws and all, and she curled up in another sunny spot. Life is so hard for this cat.

Around this house... work space vs living space

I don't know how many of you work from home, but it's an interesting thing. Because you're always at home and you're always at work. The boundaries are very blurry and, to be honest, it's something i struggle with quite a bit. Our house isn't particularly large and I don't have a dedicated workspace, it's all done in the dining room or lounge room or somewhere in-between. So as i'm working on my products i can see the laundry and start feeling guilty about the loads of washing that need doing. If i'm doing those loads of washing and housework, then i'm walking past my desk thinking about the orders i should be putting together.

But because i am at home so much, i do like the house to be somewhat tidy so i can at least give myself the illusion of being on top of everything once in a while. The key for me is surfaces, if i can see clean space then my head space feels clearer. And there's something about a clean house that ups the motivation levels too. I'm absolutely, completely and utterly not a naturally neat person so this is hard work for me and doesn't happen very often!

In the aftermath of such a productive and 'housey' long weekend however, things are looking pretty good around here and there are a few corners of our home making me happy today. 

Some of the kids paintings done over the holidays are framed and up. A cushion made by mum which i'd completely forgotten about was unearthed in the cupboard clean-out. 

Flowers picked for me by the Moonlets at the end of the table. And I am finally putting to use this curtain tie-back embroidered mum many years ago.

So this is today. By the end of the week i could be back to dreaming of a cute little studio out the back that i can disappear into...

Morning

The sun is shining, the coffee is good, the washing machine is already whirring away, the breakfast mess has been tidied, the work desk is clear and school holidays are over! 

 

Long weekending...

Oh the productivity! A long weekend well used... painting, curtain hanging (I thoroughly dislike hemming curtains by the way), shelves up, sorting out cupboards and putting stuff aside to donate to charity. Some painting with the kids. Some great finds at the second-hand book fair. And a healthy dose of easter chocolate of course. 

Also got through a heap of photographing and listing new things in the shop. A whole lotta mother birds listed... many people have told me that they use these for new mums too, which i think is a lovely idea.

And it hasn't escaped my attention that today is the last day of school holidays. I saw a funny thing on tv last night that commented on easter landing at the end of the school holidays... something along the lines of "who thought it was a good idea to hype the kids up on sugar just when mummy's about to snap?!?"  I can relate.

Vintage wallpaper notebooks.. now bigger and better!

I've revamped my little wallpaper notebooks and am so pleased to finally show you. Each one still features some gorgeous vintage wallpaper on the front and back cover and one of my little sewn critters on the front. But they are now bound with wire and contain 40 internal pages for writing. Much better, yes?

I also have some new wallpaper designs too, in great colours and patterns.

Am hoping to photograph them properly over this long weekend. I'll let you know when they're up in the shop, I can imagine these making perfect gifts for just about anyone!

New mother bird cards in heaps of colours are on the way too...

Grey day

It is very grey and overcast in my corner of the world today... raining just enough to keep us inside and cold enough to want to curl up on the lounge with some good magazines. Nice to have some colour on the work desk today to keep me happy.

 

The top 25 and unbound books

A lovely email this morning informed me that my little blog space had been nominated in the Circle of Moms top 25 Mom-Shops! Yay! Such a nice start to the morning. Especially considering we have men all over our roof doing repair work and they are making one hell of a horrible noise. But i digress...

And i have some new wallpaper notebooks in production. These will be bigger and better than the last batch, with more pages and there will be a few more cover designs too. I just love vintage wallpaper, it makes these simple little notebooks extra special and nice to touch. Should be in the shop next week sometime.

School holidays arrive

We've been out of town for a few days celebrating ten (TEN!!!) years of marriage with a family holiday... a long car trip, touristy things, sleeping in bunk beds, taking lots of photos and lots of time together just doing stuff.

And now we're back it's time for school holidays. I feel very unprepared this time around. I hadn't thought too much past our holiday really, and now here we are. The kids are starting a list of things they'd like to do and I have a list of my own too.
