Create something.

 

            "...go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something."

I do like this quote.It's from American writer Kurt Vonnegut and I'm not sure i've got it word for word accurate here, but it's the essence that got me. I know my days are better and i'm happier with a even just a small bit of creating time squeezed in somewhere. Are you the same?

 

Realistically speaking

The internet abounds with seemingly endless advice for people in my situation... small creative businesses run from home. A lot of it i find complete crap, based in an idealistic world where the juggle between family time, creative time, business time and (somewhat magically) 'me' time is in perfect balance. It does sound like a nice reality, yes? But not one i'm familiar with.

There is however, some utterly awesome advice out there too. I'll be sharing it here on the blog whenever i stumble across it in my travels. Click on the 'creative business --- links and things i've found useful' image on the right hand column.

And i'll leave you today on a different note... this is a brilliant talk on creativity in schools by Sir Ken Robinson. I stumbled across this via twitter months ago and, as a mother, it really got me thinking. Enjoy.
