A really nice few days since my last post...
Lots of making in preparation for the Daylesford Maker's Market on Saturday which was lovely. As always, great stallholders with too many tempting goodies. Felt obliged to start the christmas shopping! Due to the endless rain, it was quiet at the market and our trip home was interesting with heaps of flooding by the side of the roads and water over the road in many spots. I lost count of how many SES trucks we saw.
A change of plans for Sunday though, as you might have heard the Sugar and Spice market had a change of venue and they couldn't fit all the booked stallholders. This meant a day off for me so i had a lazy Sunday at home doing family stuff which was actually quite nice.
And unfortunately, today is to be spent doing housework. Jealous?

I was included in a great piece in the Bendigo Weekly paper today, talking about The Square Market (of which i'm one of the organisers ). The article talks about the rise of handmade focussing on Bendigo's little corner of the world.

I know that in these days of 'charity fatigue' we are constantly asked to donate our time and money to so many worthy causes everywhere we turn, and its hard to know where to direct our attention to make any difference at all. It does seem that we end up giving to a cause that we know personally or can relate to in some way... and this is the case for me and The Hamlin Fistula Relief and Aid Fund.
I first heard about the work of Dr. Catherine Hamlin at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital when i was pregnant with my first child. Her organisation helps women in Ethiopia that suffer from a common complication during childbirth called fistula that leaves them physically injured, incontinent, often deeply depressed and socially outcast by their family and communities. And the baby is usually stillborn. This condition is preventable and treatable in developed countries.
I couldn't help but be struck by the stark contrast between my experience of pending motherhood and the experience of these women. So last year, when a lovely woman called Amanda contacted me to donate some items to a fundraising stall she was running for this very cause, i was more than willing to help out. She raised a wonderful $1000 for the fund last year and will be doing another stall this year.

As hinted at a few posts ago, i have been working on something crafty with a couple of lovely local girls... a new handmade market for Bendigo!
We are launching with a christmas market on Saturday 18th December at the Bendigo Town Hall (a seriously stunning venue) from 10 - 4.

Although i must confess that seeing oneself in full glossy colour is a little disconcerting...
I love browsing through shops that are simply beautiful and the ever-wonderful Milt and Joe here in Bendigo meets all of my requirements perfectly... beautiful things to look at, handmade lovelies to inspire and a play area for the little moons while i browse and chat! Just so many gorgeous things on every shelf, in every corner, on every rack and you may even see my little cards and ready to frame pictures too.
