Paper patchwork DIY, making paperwork a wee bit nicer

In my humble opinion, paperwork completely sucks. I have stashes of receipts, statements, invoices in numerous places instead of being filed neatly away and very few figures entered onto spreadsheets. I'd like to be the organised and meticulous type in this area but i just ain't. I can assure you that i was never in danger of becoming an accountant!

And it's bad. And i should be more organised. But i'm making progress... the key was to make it pretty :) I've done this cute DIY paper patchwork folder for My Poppet. Click over and check it  out. There's also a wee giveaway too.

 

Op-shop goodness

A couple of cute finds from my op-shop rounds last week...

Found this perfect green tray and vintage ric-rac. Is that or is that not an amazing green? 

Next stop I picked up this old suitcase, which now houses my collection of embroidery threads, fabrics and hoops. I'm actually not that big on embroidery, this lot was inherited from mum. But while i had it all out, i picked out some threads for a project that i'll show you next week.

The best of books and the worst of books

Tell me... if you are reading a book and it's really not doing it for you, do you persist anyway, hoping that it will get better? Must you see it through to the bitter end? Do you resent time wasted on a book that ends up being highly unsatisfying?

Or do you cut your losses and move on? I most definately follow the "life's too short to persist with a bad book" school of thought. 

 On the other hand, there are a select few books that i go back to time and time again. Do you have favourites that seem to offer something new each time you read them? That are like catching up with an old friend every time you open the cover?

My creative space (Sept 8)

Crocheting granny squares for this with the help of some video tutorials. I've been doing a little each night in front of the tv and my progress is surprising, two squares done and another started!

Small and random things

It really is the small things that make life a tad nicer don't you think? My current and quite random list of small yet not at all insignificant things: 

* crochet as meditation

* new music so very very very far removed from what i usually listen to

* a quiet moment on my morning walks

* the old lady who smiled so kindly as she stopped to watch my daughter skip down the grocery store aisle

* pretty wallpaper ready to cut up

* red nail polish

* the dog sleeping on a blanket rather than sprawled in the middle of the floor to be tripped over

* this dvd series which i've watched compulsively over the last few weeks

* black faced sheep, so much more quaint than regular sheep

* an empty laundry basket, of course this was only a fleeting moment

* pictures of libraries

Some rather nice news in my inbox this morning... i did make the top 25 list of mom-shops over the Circle of Moms! Thanks muchly for all the votes guys. 

I'm # 20, which is none too shabby :)

 

My creative space

I've been experimenting a little with sewing onto photos and with pages from a op-shopped dictionary. I call this fellow The Book Bot :)

Books and bots for market

Making for market has been my week so far... stocking up on lots of colourful cards and wallpaper notebooks. This weekend i'm tripping down to Melbourne for the Yarraville Market. 

The cute pink owl is new this week, i couldn't go without an owl :)

I'll also have with me a new batch of the bad tie bots! Only a small batch this time. Remember these fellows made from vintage ties? Perfect little door hangers or ornaments to geek up any corner of the house.

The top 25 and unbound books

A lovely email this morning informed me that my little blog space had been nominated in the Circle of Moms top 25 Mom-Shops! Yay! Such a nice start to the morning. Especially considering we have men all over our roof doing repair work and they are making one hell of a horrible noise. But i digress...

And i have some new wallpaper notebooks in production. These will be bigger and better than the last batch, with more pages and there will be a few more cover designs too. I just love vintage wallpaper, it makes these simple little notebooks extra special and nice to touch. Should be in the shop next week sometime.
