The blah-ness has been banished!

The blah day of the last post is behind me, all your comments were lovely thank you :)  The last few days have actually been really great and busy... 

I did sneak away for a bit yesterday morning and popped into a great garage sale. Picked up a few things, one of which was this cute little stool that is the absolute perfect height for my littlest Moonlet to reach the higher shelves in her bedroom. This yellow was her choice and looks so bright and cheery.

And i finally planted a couple of old tea tins that i scooped up at another garage sale weeks ago. They were in pretty bad condition inside already, so not good for much else. Nice to have a bit of green on the kitchen window sill.

Op-shopped and thrifted goodness

The thrifting was good again this week... I just loved these bowls and picked up some kitchen linens too. 

And this is a little drawer i grabbed from the recycle yard ($2!) a while ago with a wee project in mind... it is the perfect size to fit large index cards so i'm going to turn it into a recipe box. Will share it here as a project when it get to it. Unfortunately it's a way down the to-do list at the moment!

Op-shopped and thrifted goodness

This week the thrifting has been good!

Picked up some gorgeous fabric... aren't the colours amazing? I haven't decided what to do with it yet but it's still sitting on my desk because it's too pretty to put away.

Love the design on these cannisters. Blue usually isn't my colour but at $1each i wasn't leaving them on the shelf!

These cute kitchen linens, plus the two perfect-for-us vintage tea towels i've already shared!

And some wallpaper remnanats for crafting.

Yay! Definately happy with this week's finds.

Great finds... our perfect vintage tea towels

I'm very happy with these.

Tea towels from the years my husband and i were born! Particularly perfect since i got them on the day of our 11th wedding anniversary.

Thanks to my eagle-eyed niece who magically pulled them out of an enormous pile of vintage linens at a garage sale over the long weekend. I'm going to make them into cushions for our bed i think. One of them has two small singe marks so i'll do some embroidery in that spot just to cover it up. Of course i'm totally giving away my age by showing you these. Do me a favour and don't do the math please :) 

And as an aside, it turns out that my husband was born on a Monday. Which seems strangely fitting in a 'first thing Monday' or 'start of the week' kind of way. You know? He's the reliable type with a work ethic for just getting stuff done that i've always admired and envied. So Monday is completely right for him. 

As for me, I was a Tuesday arrival. Which also seems rather fitting since i'm the procrastinator.

Op-shop goodness

A couple of cute finds from my op-shop rounds last week...

Found this perfect green tray and vintage ric-rac. Is that or is that not an amazing green? 

Next stop I picked up this old suitcase, which now houses my collection of embroidery threads, fabrics and hoops. I'm actually not that big on embroidery, this lot was inherited from mum. But while i had it all out, i picked out some threads for a project that i'll show you next week.

Perfect op shop find

A moon cookie cutter!

Which of course called for a batch of  gingerbread moons. And while we baked we listened to this album. It's really great, track 2 my favourite i think.

 

My creative space (Mar 17)

As you know, i'm not one to waste pretty paper, esepcially cute or quirky pretty paper. So when i came across some old Frankie magazine pullout calendars on my shelves that i'd put aside aaaages ago, i wanted to put them to a good use... so more notebooks for me!

Remember this one i did a while ago? These are more of the same, just some cheapo school exercise books, spray glue and a wee bit of stitching around the edges...

Clearly much cuter. Looking forward to using them all myself! Although i think the kids have their beady little eyes on them...

The Frankie goodness will last me a little longer :)

And i also attacked some old frames i'd picked up at the op shop a while ago. Nice bright colours and some free art from the Feed Your Soul project. My littlest Moonlet chose what pictures she liked and we'll put them up in her room.

Still two more frames to fill, although i might steal that little yellow one. I have a thing for yellow at the moment.

The one dollar drawer

From the recycling yard i picked up an old drawer for $1. I thought i'd paint it and it might be good to use in my market display with all those compartments. It looked pretty awful and my beloved husband gave me one of those looks... but i never got around to getting it ready for the markets so it has been put to a different use.

A lick of white paint does wonders. And for one dollar i do believe that was a bargain. One does love to see one's pretty coloured cottons in nicely sorted piles :) And i'm taking a photo of my workspace today, because it sure ain't going to look like this tomorrow. I have lots of sewing to get through so i'm enjoying the clear surface while i can.

Moonmum your cup of tea?

Have you seen that paint that can paint on crockery? I couldn't resist buying some to try... turns out it was harder than i thought and i'm really impatient. I was going for the old stencilly type writing which actually ended up uneven, blobby and not at all how i'd pictured in my head. But does anything ever end up like we think it will?!? 

Was fun. And it justified a trip to the op shop to find some bits and pieces to paint on. I invested a massive $1 in this teacup and saucer. 

Beats a plastic business card holder hands down anyway.

Notebooks made with vintage wallpaper and bunnies

The second half of the sneak peak i gave you a while ago... new notebooks! Made with vintage wallpaper for the cover and recycled blank paper inside. The cover is stitched all the way around and one of my cute sewn bunnies with a button tail on the front. 

 

As you can see, I've also included a lined insert for each booklet so you can pop it under a page as you write (just in case you're a bit pedantic about writing in straight lines like me!).

I picked up this roll of old wallpaper at an op-shop ages ago and am very pleased with it's new life as notebooks. I have another roll which is much more colourful and a different pattern to attack next. I'm thinking i'll do owls on the next batch...
